calvados

The Whistler Calvados Cask Finish is a collaboration between Boann Distillery and famed Calvados producers Chateau du Breuil, in Normandy, France. Chateau du Breuil produces some of the world’s finest Calvados, which is a geographically protected, aged apple distillate, which can only be produced in Normandy in the North West of France.

For this whiskey, Chateau du Breuil sent some of their finest 10 year old, 400 litre French Oak Calvados casks to Ireland, which were then filled with our signature, high malt content, blended whiskey and left to finish for a period of at least 15 months. These casks produced a whiskey with rich notes of stewed apples, fresh orchard fruits and creamy vanilla.

This cask finished blend starts its life as our signature blend, which is a combination of 35% single malt whiskeys and 65% grain whiskeys, both independently matured in ex-bourbon barrels for at least 4 years before being married together and filled into these fresh Calvados casks.

This has produced a very fruit forward, creamy and delicious whiskey which is incredibly interesting to sip neat or in an apple inspired cocktail.

The blend for the Calvados Cask Finish is the same base high malt content blend that is used in The Whistler Oloroso Sherry Cask blend, which is finished for a period no shorter than 12 months, which makes these whiskey incredibly interesting to try side by side. This comparison is a great investigation into the impact of different cask finishes, while the base whiskey remains the same.

This is a limited release whiskey that is only produced once a year, with a limited 3,000 bottles per batch. Bottled at 43% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and contains no caramel colouring.
